The first JCI Application Symposium on International Medical Service of Jiangsu Province was held in the afternoon of August 12thin Wuxi. Over a hundred OB-GYN experts and scholars from home and abroad jointly investigated the topics including “What Types of Hospitals that Wuxi Needs” and “How to Build High-quality Hospitals that Meet JCI Standards and Demands of Wuxi People”. Wuxi Baijia Maternity Hospital officially launched the JCI Accreditation Project in the meeting. It will become the first JCI standard maternity hospital in Wuxi once it passes the accreditation.
As the highest benchmark of international healthcare safety and standardized management recognized by World Health Organization (WHO), Joint Commission International (JCI) standards are the golden criteria for accreditation of healthcare organizations around world.
As for how to build high-quality hospitals that meet JCI standards and demands of Wuxi people, Dr. Christian D. Orejudos said, “Hospital’s negligence in management is the main cause of iatrogenic harm. Study found that the iatrogenic harm mainly happens in seven aspects including adverse drug events, catheter-associated urinary tract infection, and catheter-related bloodstream infection, hospital acquired pneumonia, venous embolism, fall and pressure sores. ”
“The hospitals should manage four areas including healthcare, medical insurance, human resources and culture. Establishment of an accreditation system will result in good management, which means to improve the management system level. The main purpose of improved management is to identify issues and push for gradual improvement over time,”said Mr. Tang Weixin, Vice President of China Hospital Association.
Mr. Lin Jianhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation, Shanghai Huashan Hospital shared the practical experience of JCI accreditation of Huashan Hospital. According to Dr. Lin, JCI accreditation not only represents the safety and standardized management of hospitals, but also relates to the health reform in China.
Many experts agreed that as Wuxi City becomes more international, increased importance on medical services for women and infants and prenatal care, and the increased consumer spending will make high-quality healthcare inevitable. Therefore, the establishment of JCI standards for maternity hospitals will provide better health insurance to women and infants and introduce international elements to Wuxi healthcare market.
After the Dialogue, Wuxi Baijia Maternity Hospital officially launched its JCI Accreditation Project in the meeting. It will become the first JCI standard maternity hospital in Wuxi once it passes the accreditation.
